The culprit is a bacterium called leptospirosis, a familiar name to Appaloosa owners everywhere as it can cause recurrent uveitis (an eye disease) as well as acute renal (kidney) failure and abortions.
The month of October has been treating us with tricks all month. We have seen several cases of Strangles in our service area in recent weeks. The cases we’ve seen are unrelated; there doesn’t appear to be any common time/place where these cases could have come in contact with each other. Now is a good time to vaccinate to avoid this unwelcome visitor.
